Situated in the very heart of the Cairngorms, we are in an ideal location to keep our eye on where the sport is going and what the current trends are. With some of the most accessible winter climbing in the U.K., we are able to keep you up to date with current climbing, and avalanche conditions. Checkout the links to SAIS, and Cairngorm Mountain, and Winterhighland.com for the latest Climbing conditions.
In my opinion mountaineering is as much about the British heritage of adventure, exploration and travel, as the sports of Rugby and football are a British institution. We have led expeditions all over the world and conquered many high mountains in far flung territories, incorporating, physical strength, determination, adrenalin and fear into one tidy package. Once considered a sport for the full hardy, or the ultra rich Mountaineering in general breaks all the social and sexual barriers, of yester year, so that one and all can enjoy the lure of the high mountains. It's seen a massive increase over the past twenty years or so with millions of us taking to the hills, in both summer and winter, the equipment has improved massively, and so to has our abilities. Our sprit of adventure is still alive.
There are many Mountaineering clubs situated all over that head off to the hills on the weekends, this is a good way to start. A list of all the clubs can be found by going onto the British Mountaineering Councils website. You could also attend an introductory course by any number of independent Mountain Instructors or head to one of the National outdoor Centres such as Glenmore Lodge.
